Reflections

The Reflections Art Competition is a WA State PTA and National PTA program that starts at the school level and is one of the key programs sponsored by SES PTSA.

Each year students are invited to create original works of art, in 6 categories, around a theme. Categories include, Photography, Music Composition, Film Production, Dance Choreography, Literature and Visual Arts. Entries are evaluated by judges that typically have a background in the arts category.

Top scoring works advance to the district level with the opportunity to advance to the state and even national level. Although entries are judged the emphasis for Reflections is on students expressing themselves through art. 

The 2025-2026 Reflections theme is “I Belong!”

Entries must be original work of one student and it must be created for this year’s competition. Please look over the rules for the requirements. Entries that do not follow the rules will not advance to the next level. 

Remember, interpretation of the theme matters! Students must include an Artist Statement on their entry form. Judges will use the artist statement to take into account how the artist has interpreted the theme.

Special Artist Division: Students with disabilities may receive special accommodations by entering the special artist division and are encouraged to enter any category of their choice.

While the primary focus of Reflections is a celebration of creativity through positive recognition, finalists from local PTAs will move on to their council PTA, then finalists from councils will move on to the state round. Washington State PTA finalists who receive an “Outstanding Interpretation” award will advance to the National PTA round.

Reflections entries will be submitted digitally again this year. If an entry moves on to the National level a physical entry may be needed, so please keep them!

Entries will also be displayed on the bulletin board in school.
